Nightsisters and The Clone Wars

Within a galaxy as densely populated as Star Wars, it's to be expected that many stars will shine brightly for only a short bit of time, only to return to the ether revisited only by the most hardcore of Star Wars fans. Plucking out a few of those characters is the upcoming Nintendo DS game The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance.

The game places members of the Jedi Council up against a new foe -- the Nightsisters. A group of Force Witches, it seems they are in league with the dastardly Count Dooku, but as their history shows, their allegiances may not be as solid as they seem.

The Force witch introduced appeared in 1986, in the made for television movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. Charal was a Nightsister who betrayed her coven and joined a group of roving marauders. Utilizing her powers for the dark side, she showed that those like her were very strong with the Force, and very adept with the dark side.

Their powers, according to legend, were first granted them by an exiled Jedi by the name of Allya. As the story goes, when Allya was banished to the planet she found a group of humans. Quickly enslaving the men and training the women, Allya created a society of Amazonian-type women who could wield the Force quite expertly.

As the time of Clone Wars dawns, some of the descendants of Allya are now known as the Nightsisters, and are virtually unknown beyond the reach of their home planet. The Jedi Council learns of their threat within the story of The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance.

Travelling across space is some prized cargo -- crystals for use in lightsaber creation. When contact with the ship is lost, the Jedi Council takes quick action sending in the player's choice of two Jedi. As the ship is explored, it becomes apparent that someone with great Force powers is involved.

At first, the Jedi believe the leader of the thieves is Asajj Ventress, due to the attacker being a very pale female using the dark side. Soon our heroes are confronted and they realize that there is a new enemy of the Council -- the Nightsisters.

Dooku has apparently recruited them for help with espionage, but their motives and loyalties are hard to fathom. Betrayal, rebellion, and in-fighting fill their history, but the Nightsisters obey one rule of their founder Allya: never concede to evil.

What this means for the council is yet to be known. Releasing November 11th, The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance gives Star Wars fans the chance to find out what the true intentions of the Nightsisters are, and what the future holds for these witches of the Force.
